Anything but Jigs and Reels
Begged Borrowed and Stolen tune title listing
"Begged Borrowed and Stolen" is a small printed tune-book produced in Australia for people who are learning so-called "celtic" traditional music. You can buy a printed version from the publishers here - but beware of the postage costs.
Or you might be able to pick one up on Amazon (just make sure you don't accidentally get the recipe book with the same title but very different contents!)
This is a listing of all the tunes in it, sorted alphabetically and showing the tune type, the page number and which of the accompanying CDs it is on.
For what it's worth: There is a lot of nonsense written on the internet about this book - things like "hackneyed tunes no longer played in Ireland". These claims may be true among highly accomplished Irish traditional musicians who are completing, being paid to lead sessions and teaching master-classes. But for the average pub-player and adult-learner and nothing is further from the truth. There is a huge number of tunes that are also in the the 100% authentic and currently played in Ireland "Ten Years of Tunes" publication. The only thing the Irish won't do is refer to the music as "celtic" (blech!) - or play Amazing Grace outside of church.
Share and enjoy.
